J&K Govt intensifies Summary Revision for 2020-21

Jammu: To enroll first time voters, Jammu and Kashmir Government has intensified its exercise of Summary Revision for the year 2020-21.

However, as many as 11 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and 12 Assistants (AEROs) are on job to aggressively shape up the exercise.

Administrative sources here told “The News Now” that with reference to 1-1-2020 as the qualifying date, in respect to the Municipal Councils/Committees of the Union Territory, the schedule has been announced for inviting claims and objections regarding addition, deletion, correction and transposition.

“We have initiated the exercise of Summary Revision from October 10 and there are clear directions from the top hierarchy in the administration that the exercise has to be completed successfully at the earliest in a scheduled time frame,” an official here said.

He added that as per the fixed schedule, date for publication of Draft Electoral Rolls was October 10 and the period for filing of claims and objections is from October 10 to 19.

“Special Camp at polling Stations will be held on October 18, Disposal of claims and objections shall be made by October 20, Updation of Electoral Rolls is to be done by October 22 and final publication of Electoral Rolls will be completed by October 23,” said an official.

They said that as many as 18 EROs and 14 AEROs have been appointed by the Government in Jammu district to facilitate the Summary Revision exercise, adding, “we are carrying out various activities including drum-beating to aware people of about it so that those who are not enrolled or have any changes in their electoral document, get it revised.”

Sources said that EROs concerned have published the draft Municipal Electoral Rolls on October 10 with a notice in Form-2 in accordance with statutory Rules, adding, “the place of hearing for the claims/objections received shall be the headquarters of EROs or AEROs and the date of hearing for the same shall be notified by the ERO concerned.”

An official said that the notice giving abstract of the claims or objections received by the EROs have to be uploaded on a daily basis on the website of the Chief Electoral Officer, Jammu and Kashmir as also the Deputy Commissioners of the concerned districts while the ERO shall pass order on the claims, objections latest by October 20, 2020 and every such order shall be posted on the notice board of the ERO immediately on such issuance.

“Any appeal against the order passed by the ERO shall be made within the prescribed statutory period of five days while the special Camps shall be organized by the Deputy Commissioner at the polling station level, after giving due publicity,” they said.

“For any assistance, the Deputy Commissioner, ERO, AERO or Polling Station Level Officers (PSLOs) of the concerned area may be contacted,” he said asserting that the details of ERO, AERO, and PSLOs are available in the offices of the Deputy Commissioners of the concerned district and on the website of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), J&K.
