Vice Prez M Venkaiah Naidu expresses dismay at behaviour of parliamentarians in recently concluded session

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu expressed dismay at the behaviour of the parliamentarians in the recently concluded session and said suitable action will be initiated for it if necessary.

Speaking at an award function in Bengaluru today, he said that the legislators should set very high standard for themselves and be a role model for others.

The Vice President who holds the position of Chairman in Rajya Sabha said that Parliament is to debate, discuss and decide and not to disrupt. Dissent, he added, is democratic but use of physical force to compel the parliament to toe their line is not it.

The Vice President said that in Democracy people’s mandate must be respected, the majority must be respected and the majority must take the minority along.

He advocated for a need to improve the standard of public life and the standard of debate in the Parliament so that the legislators could set an example for those who have elected them.
