Extensive road network in Himalayan region will help boost tourism sector in region, says Nitin Gadkari

Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that an extensive road network in the Himalayan region will help boost the tourism sector in the region. He said this will provide huge employment opportunities to the people and strengthen the economy.

Mr. Gadkari today reviewed and inspected the construction work of Z Morh tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir. After completion this tunnel will provide all weather connectivity from Srinagar to Sonmarg which face connectivity issues during extreme snowfall season.

The Minister will also review the progress of Zojila tunnel. The length of Zojila tunnel is 14.15 km and Z Morh tunnel is 6.5 km. Once completed, Zojila tunnel will be India’s longest road tunnel and Asia’s longest bi-directional tunnel built at an altitude of 11 thousand 578 feet. A connecting tunnel from Z Morh on the National Highways one to Zojila tunnel will be constructed in the Zojila ghats between Sonmarg and Kargil.
