NSS National Awardee Vikas Pandita calls on VC Jammu University

Jammu, Sept 30-: An Alumni and  NSS Volunteer Vikas Pandita from the University of Jammu was awarded the prestigious NSS National Award. The award was conferred by the Hon’ble President of India, Sh. Ram Nath Kovind on 24th September 2021, a day celebrated as NSS Day.
Vikas Pandita, NSS Volunteer secured First Rank in All Over India Merit for the NSS Award. After going through a series of evaluations and scrutiny at various stages right from the University Level to National Level, he has been selected by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt of India for this award.
Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu congratulated Vikas Pandita for his speculator achievement which has brought laurels to the J&K UT in general and the University of Jammu in particular. Recognition of Vikas as NSS volunteer is the badge of honour for NSS of Jammu University and it shall definitely motivate other volunteers that if they work tirelessly and selflessly they can also get recognized at the highest level, said Vice-Chancellor. Prof Dhar contemplated that once the student gets associated with NSS; it gives him a sense of belonging and inspires him to give back to society.
Prof Dhar hoped that Vikas continues in his endeavour to serve the society with the same zeal and courage. He is also an inspiration to all those who are working tirelessly for the betterment of society and his contributions will definitely motivate the youth to take up issues of greater importance to society.
Prof Jasbir Singh, Controller of Examinations and former  Chairman, NSS, Campus Unit also lauded the achievements of Vikas Pandita and said that he is a get-goer and always volunteered himself for outreach programmes. His sincerity and hard work have paid dividends, said Prof Jasbir Singh. Prof Jasbir Singh said that Prof Manoj Dhar, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu has been highly supportive of the NSS unit of JU and has inspired all of us that we owe a great deal to society and we must render our services to the society in whatever capacity we can.
Prof Neeru Sharma, Convenor, JU NSS Campus Unit said that It’s a great honour that one of the NSS Volunteers has been placed in Merit at the National Level and was awarded by the Hon’ble President of India. Vikas has worked diligently for the welfare of the community and is still contributing to the NSS Campus Units in the conduct of Programs. He gives credit for his achievements and Career to the training, discipline, and leadership skills learnt as a Volunteer. He is a role model for the volunteers and youth, said Prof Neeru.
It is pertinent to mention here that NSS Volunteers of University of Jammu, created awareness about precautionary measures and other safety norms to be taken during Covid 19 crisis. Door-to-door awareness campaigns about precautionary measures to be adopted during Covid 19 were conducted. They helped in fumigation of villages- Khour, Mattu, Akhnoor, pasted awareness posters, and created awareness among shopkeepers of Khour village, Muthi Village and slum area of Naseeb Nagar.  During the lockdown period, online digital platform was used for organizing activities like e-posters-Slogans, short videos, to create awarenessØ about SOPs related to COVID 19. There is a   realization in the University of Jammu that the educational system should actively contribute toward the benefit of the masses and should not remain a prerogative of few, has grown in recent years. The National Service Scheme has opened new vistas and has offered unique opportunities for institutions of higher learning to become instruments of change and development.
It is noteworthy to mention here that Vikas Pandita has represented India in South Korea in the year 2019 during the International Youth Exchange Program. He has also represented J&K in 2 National Camps – National Adventure Camp (2015) held at Regional Mountaineering Centre, Mcleodganj, Himachal Pradesh and National Integration Camp (2019) held at Mandi, Himachal Pradesh.  Vikas has also got the Best Volunteer Certificate from the then HRD Minister Sh. Prakash Javadekar for the Digital Financial Literacy Campaign in 2017. In SBSI (Swachh Bharat Summer Internship Program) Vikas Pandita and his team got 2nd Position at State Level and 1st Position at University Level. He has also received a Letter of Appreciation from the former Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha Sh. Shamsher Singh Manhas for his contribution to society. It is pertinent to mention here that Vikas Pandita is a regular Blood Donor and has donated blood 26 times till now. For his contribution towards voluntary blood donation, Young Blood Association conferred him with the Appreciation Award. He has also received an Appreciation Award from the International Volunteer Foundation for creating awareness related to the environment.
He is currently working as a Systems Engineer in one of India’s Leading IT Company, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. He is also the Founder and Chairman of the Seva Foundation.
Among others, Dr Vinay Thusoo, Nodal Officer, Prime Minister’s Swacch Bharat Internship Programme, Government of India, Dr, Anju Thappa, Programme Coordinator, NSS, Sr.Programme Officers Dr Savita Nayyar & Dr Meghna Dhar and programme officers Dr Isha Sharma, Dr Harjinder Singh, Dr Savita Nayyar, Dr Amit Sharma, Dr Neelam Choudhary, were also present on the occasion.
