Travel from Kishtwar to Chamba soon be reality, work on highway expedited
Travel from Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir to Chamba district in neighbouring Himachal Pradesh will soon be a reality as National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) has expedited the work on a 120-km long highway stretch connecting with National Highway 144.
The all-weather connectivity will connect six districts of the Union Territory namely Jammu, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar and South Kashmir’s Khannabal with Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba.
“This route will be connected with NH 144 and the construction of this very important highway from a strategic point of view, Jammu and Kashmir will be directly connected to Chamba and will be an all weather facility,” said an official.
He said that it will boost tourism in both Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and this project of NHIDCL will be completed by 2024.
“The connectivity will be of strategic importance while NHIDCL is acquiring land for widening,” said an official, adding that a 120 km long highway is being constructed between Kishtwar in Jammu division to Chamba in Himachal Pradesh.
“Road already exists but its widening is needed which is a challenging task,” he said and added that land acquisition is in full swing.
The length of road between Kishtwar to Chamba is 90-km but 30-km of the connectivity will be included in Chamba so that tourists from Himachal Pradesh can get an easy access to Jammu and Kashmir, said an official adding that with the completion of this connectivity, alternate route will also be available for the Armed forces so that the troops can travel from Himachal Pradesh to Jammu and Kashmir in a less time.
