Two more of J&K get Padma awards
Two more people from Jammu and Kashmir among 118 prominent personalities, who were given the Padma awards by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here on Tuesday.
Shri Ghulam Rasool Khan from Jammu and Kashmir received the award for his contributions in the field of art while Shri Chaman Lal Sapru (posthumously)was awarded Padma Shri for his contribution in literature and education.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday congratulated the Padma awardees from Jammu and Kashmir who received their awards from President Ram Nath Kovind.
“Many congratulations to Shri Ghulam Rasool Khan and the family of Shri Chaman Lal Sapru (posthumously) from UT of J&K for receiving the prestigious Padma Shri awards 2021. Their achievements and exemplary service to the nation will inspire and motivate generations,” Sinha tweeted.
While Sapru was awarded Padma Shri in literature and education, Khan got the award for his contributions in the field of art.
On Monday, three other eminent people from Jammu and Kashmir received the Padma awards from the president.
The recipients included Muzaffar Hussain Baig (Padma Bhushan in public affairs), Shiv Datt Nirmohi (Padma Shri in literature and education) and Javed Ahmad Tak (Padma Shri in social work).
Moreover, renowned singer late S P Balasubrahmanyam, former Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and late chief minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi were among the 118 prominent personalities who were given the Padma awards by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Rashtrapati Bhavan here on Tuesday.
Archaeologist B B Lal, who led an excavation at the Ram Janmabhoomi site in the mid-1970s, Balasubrahmanyam (posthumous) and Islamic scholar Maulana Wahiduddin Khan (posthumous) were conferred the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian award.
Veteran sculptor from Odisha Sudarshan Sahoo, renowned doctor and educationist from Karnataka Belle Monappa Hegde and US-based engineering scientist Narinder Singh Kapany (posthumous) were also given the Padma Vibhushan award at two Civil Investiture ceremonies held in the morning and the evening.
Japan’s longest-serving prime minister Shinzo Abe, who was awarded with the Padma Vibhushan, was not present at the event to receive the award.
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman were among those who were present on the occasion.
