Work on emergency landing facility in Kmr near completion
In a significant development, over 93 percent of work on the emergency landing facility for an airstrip on Srinagar-Banihal section of National Highway (NH) 1A stands completed.
Further, the construction of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) building and service road for which land acquisition is under process, which will be completed within the stipulated time frame.
A senior government official said that the emergency airstrip was approved by the government of India last year. Whereas, the work on the project commenced in June last year, which was delayed for two months following the Covid-19 pandemic.
The official added that the construction of an emergency landing facility from Km 246.00 to 249.700 (Design Length of 3.5 km) on the Srinagar-Banihal section of NH- 1A, which is the new NH-44 in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, is in full swing and 93.8 per cent progress have been achieved on it.
“Further, majority of works have been completed, except construction of ATC Building and service road for which land acquisition is under progress and 3D notification has been issued by CALA on 23rd November 2021 and the same sent to National Highway Authority of India on 23rd November 2021 through Bhoomi Rashi Portal for approval of competent authority and publication of e-gazette notification. The project shall complete within the stipulated time”, he added.
The official further said that more than Rs.100 Crore is being spent on the project, giving the air force the upper hand in any situation.
It is pertinent to mention here that the 3.5 Kilometer emergency landing strip on Srinagar-Banihal will be among the 19 emergency landing strips developed across the country.
