Why do we see dreams and pray in our mother tongue? Asks Dr. Agnishekhar to emphasize the need to preserve and promote Kashmiri

“The historical references and proofs of the existence of Kashmiri language can be found from 11th to 15th century. From the writings of Kalhan and Bilhan to the poetry of revered Lal Ded. Scholars and researchers trace the origin of Kashmiri to Rig Veda. Some also claim that it is the mother of many languages and it is believed that even Sanskrit is derived from this language. It belongs to the family of Bhartiya Arya Basha parivar and not Indo Iranian family”, said Dr. Agnishekhar in his interview with TRN.
He said currently Kashmiri is primarily used from Uri to Matragam in North, from Verinag to Pir Panchal in South and from Shopian to Kishtawar and Bhaderwah in West.
While explaining the importance of the mother tongue he asked to reflect as to why do we see dreams only in our mother tongue mostly. We even feel comfortable and natural to pray in Kashmiri. Whether it is a Hindu or a Muslim, they may read scriptures in their respective languages like Sanskrit or Arabic but when it comes to connecting with God by means of a language, it is always mother tongue.
