J&K cops soon to be equipped with bodycams

After getting hi-tech military-grade weapons, Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel will soon be equipped with bodycams on their uniforms capable of capturing the happenings during the anti-terror operations.

Sources in the Police Headquarters said that the Jammu and Kashmir Police Personnel, who are efforting to defeat nefarious designs of Pakistan, will soon be equipped with state-of-the-art assault rifles and bodycams.

“Bodycams soon be an integral part of their uniform and the device will be fully capable of taking photographs, videos and capturing voice recording round the clock in all weathers,” sources said.

Moreover, they said that the police personnel posted in various police stations, traffic wing, will also be equipped with the gadget to maintain law and order, adding, “the exercise of reforming and modernizing the Jammu and Kashmir Police is in full wing for the last few years because the challenges for cops are completely different from the police in other states and union territories.”

Apart from their routine duties, Jammu and Kashmir Police, which is one of the finest and professional forces in the country, is also fighting against the proxy war triggered by the neighboring country, they said.

“Often, our troops are engaged in counter-insurgency operations along with Army and BSF in border belts too and the decision to modernize them with Bodycam has been taken not only to improve their efficiency but also to increase transparency and sense of responsibility,” sources said.

A senior police official said that presently, only traffic cops are using these cameras in some states including Maharashtra, Delhi and Kerala but the Jammu and Kashmir Police will be the first force that is deployed for operational activities and maintaining law and order and will be equipped with bodycams.

The state-of-the-art bodycams being procured by the Jammu and Kashmir Police will have 10-megapixel cameras and will be capable of operating even in minimum temperature of minus 30 degree Celsius and maximum temperature, said a senior police official besides in the humid conditions.

“The cameras will have a GPS fitted facility and no police personnel will be able to tamper any recording and photograph captured,” he said adding that the data will also remain safe and secure.

The auto focussed lens in the bodycam will be able to record the activity within a radius of about 15 meters even in the darkness, adding he said, “It will be equipped with night vision and infra LED lights to be fitted on helmets or on uniforms.”

The initiative will somehow prevent and rescue the jawans of countering allegations leveled by some so-called human rights activists of terrorists and separatists by raising fingers at the professional working of the cops.

Meanwhile new weapons procured by the Jammu and Kashmir Police Force will also be used for the anti-terrorist operations to maintain peace and harmony in the Union Territory.
