BJP leader, SFs personnel, govt employees among 706 tested +ve
Senior BJP leader, security forces personnel and government employees among 706 have tested positive for the Covid-19 on Monday, while four deaths linked to the disease were reported from J&K in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today launched the precaution dose vaccination for healthcare and frontline workers and those over 60 years of age with co-morbidities.

Amid detection of fresh cases in Jammu district, the administration has notified nine micro containment zones today. Steeping up targeted sampling 52 dedicated teams of health department covering markets, offices, banks, universities and probable hotspots carried out the drive today in the district.
Requesting full co-operation and motivation for these warriors, the district administration has stressed that targeted sampling has always been effective in identifying, isolating and weeding out the Virus. The authorities have sealed the Casino restaurant in Purani Mandi area of the old city for flouting the Covid norms despite directive from the administration.
In his Twitter handle, BJP leader Devender Singh Rana has said I have tested COVID positive . I have mild symptoms and have isolated myself and home quarantined. I request those who have come in contact with me in the last few days to isolate and get themselves tested. Also few employees have also tested positive during testing at Police Head Quarters, Panama Chowk.
Meanwhile, 12 BSF personnel, two doctors in Kashmir valley have tested positive today. A day after the government issued fresh guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in view of the rise in Omicron cases, the administration in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday sealed six coaching centers for violating SOPs. Amid the surge in Covid-19 cases, the authorities at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar Monday cancelled the winter vacation of all faculty members, working at GMC and its associated hospitals. Faculty members have been asked to join duties without any fail.
As per sources, the few staff members of Sanik School Nagrota have also tested positive today, after the area around the School was declared Mirco Containment zone. Other containment zones included- area near Meridian Palace, New Rehari, Lane near house number 9, sector 5, near Gurudwara, Model Town, Gangyal, Lane near telephone towers Vijay Nagar Camp Road, Talab-Tillo, Area around Police Head Quarters, Panama Chowk, Lane near Bharat Shiv Ashram, Panjgrain, Nagrota, Lane near house number 272, near Durga Mandir, Shastri Nagar, Lane near house number 5, sector 1A, extension Channi Himmat and Lane near house number 25, sector 2, Pandoka Colony, Paloura.
In view of the recent surge in Covid-19 cases, Deputy Commissioner Anshul Garg convened a series of meetings with district officers and representatives of market associations today.
Meanwhile, J&K today recorded 706 fresh cases of coronavirus, taking the infected number of persons to 3,45,358. Out of the fresh cases, 345 were from the Jammu division and 361 from the Kashmir division of the union territory, the officials said. They said Jammu district recorded the highest of 233 cases followed by 172 cases in Srinagar district. The death toll in the union territory due to the pandemic was 4544 as four fresh deaths were reported in the past 24 hours.
The drive for precautionary dose was launched for the UT of J&K from District Hospital, Gandhi Nagar Jammu where the Lt Governor also received the vaccine shot along with JMC Mayor, Chander Mohan Gupta, and Advisor to Lt Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, besides health care workers. The Lt Governor appealed to all the eligible people to get their precautionary vaccine shot at the earliest. The UT Government is making several interventions to strengthen public health response to COVID-19. Advanced life support ambulances will be a step in the fight against the global pandemic, said the Lt Governor. The Lt Governor was informed by the senior health officials that as per the directions, all necessary arrangements have been made for administering the precautionary dose to eligible population through walk-in and pre-registration mode.
Pertinently, on December 25, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced a precautionary dose of vaccination for healthcare and frontline workers as well as those above the age of 60 years who have comorbidities. The vaccination drive for the 15-18 year age group which was launched on January 03 this year is going on smoothly across the UT.
