Surge in infections push active caseload above 10,000 in J&K

The surge in the Covid cases in Jammu and Kashmir by 10 times over the past 10 days have pushed the active case load in the union territory over 10,000 on Friday, which few months back had come below even 1000 mark. Today 2456 new cases have been reported while five persons succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total active cases in the Union Territory to 10,003.

The fatalities included three from Jammu division and two from Kashmir Valley. So far 4557 people have succumbed to the virus and include 2216 in Jammu and 2341 in Kashmir.

Meanwhile in wake of surge in cases, the district administration in Jammu has declared 12 new micro containment zones. The locations included-lane near house number 134, Kailash Nagar, Talab-Tillo, Lane near 47, Shopping Centre, Bakshi Nagar, Lane near house number 116, sector 4, Trikuta Nagar, Lane near house number 73, ward number 3, Bishnah, lane near house number 80-B, Sainik colony, Lane near house number 118, sector-8. Roop Nagar, Lane near house number 53, secotr 2, Pamposh colony, Janipur, Lane near 821- Sweet Home Apartments Channi Rama, Lane near house number 419m sector 5, near CD Gupta House, Channihimmat, Lane near SBI quarters BSNL Exchange Bantalab, Lane near house number 343/B, Sector 1, south extension, Trikuta Nagar and Lane near house number 568 A Gandhi Nagar.

Providing district-wise breakup for positive cases reported today, the Bulletin said that Srinagar reported 464 cases, Baramulla reported 457 cases, Budgam reported 139 cases, Pulwama reported 22 cases, Kupwara reported 104 cases, Anantnag reported 101 cases, Bandipora reported 95cases, Ganderbal reported 12 cases, Kulgam reported 120 cases while as Shopian reported 08 fresh cases for today.

Similarly, Jammu reported 588cases, Reasi reported 90 cases for today, Udhampur reported 55 cases, Rajouri reported 29cases, Doda reported 18cases, Kathua reported 52 cases, Samba reported 16 cases, Poonch reported 49 case, Kishtwar reported 33 cases while as Ramban reported 04 fresh cases for today.

Moreover, the bulletin also highlights that against the availability of 4794 dedicated level 1 and level 2 COVID beds, only 260 ( 5.4%) are occupied.
