Renowned artist of J&K Hassan Javaid rues about the indifferent attitude of government towards artists if at all artists in J&K have to progress and prosper

Srinagar, February 12, 2022: Hassan Javaid, renowned artist from Jammu and Kashmir who is known by various artistic names like “Johny”, “Hokhshall” and “Shab Navid”due to his fabulous performances in theatre and TV does not see a great future for the artists of Jammu and Kashmir and largely blames it on the indifferent attitude of the government as well as those people from the fraternity who have amassed wealth during the hay days but did nothing to promote art and culture in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

In a conversation with Manzoor Ahmed Mir in the programme The Right Connect with the Right Person, Hassan Javaid describes his journey in the field of art and gives an insight about what ails the fraternity in J&K.

Hassan Javaid says that he started his career in the field in 1989 when he presented a photo feature for the Door Darshan Kendra Kashmir and explained how he has to wait for months on only to enter the TV station in Kashmir.

On his theatre journey he says it was in 1998 that he started his journey in Theatre and gives all credit to Yakoob Muzzaffar adding while learning he established Firdous Dramatic club.

For Television he calls it a showbiz but explains that theatre is the real place where one can learn a lot about the craft adding he is still learning.

Javid says that an actor should be a keen observer and describes how he has used his observation into acting to harness his craft.

On return of Kashmiri Pandits to Valley Javaid says that they are welcome and must come back but puts onus on them to initiate the process. He also suggested that producers from Kashmir have always invited Kashmiri Pandit artists for their contribution but blamed Kashmiri Pandits for not inviting Kashmiri Muslim artists ever to perform in their productions.

He says artists future is not secure in J&K adding for the past fifteen years artists in J&K are jobless and hence new generation is not inclined to join the profession adding I suggest younger generation to move to Mumbai if they want to prosper and not in J&K where future is bleak.

He says government has not done enough for the artistic community and it must offer new avenues and opportunityfor the artistic community inside the Valley for which he blamed the cultural academy also which is not organising many events that may offer opportunity to the artists.

He however hoped that new generation which is smarter than the older generation will definitely find out the ways to conquer these obstacles.
