Chief Secy for survey of unemployed youth in J&K, DCs commence exercise
The District Administrations of all respective districts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir have geared up for an intensive survey of unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir.
The District Magistrates have taken the task on war footage after Chief Secretary JK UT Arun Kumar Mehta specifically pointed out the issue during the Committee of Secretaries (CoS) meeting conducted on 17th February 2022.
To collect accurate data of unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir the DCs further employed the services of government teachers, Panchayati Raj Institutions and Municipalities with the appointment of Zonal Educational Officers as In-charge Officers. The officials are directed to make door to door surveys for the collection and compilation of the unemployed youth data.
With the direction to complete the excise by the 18th of April all the Zonal Educational Officers, ZEOs, are ordered to collect comprehensive data of unemployed youth before forwarding the same to the concerned DCs. The ZEOs are also directed to coordinate with the office of the Deputy Director Employment for timely completion of survey and finalization of the report. The data so collected is to be reached to the concerned DCs by 20 April.
Pertinently cripples started erupting in JK UT Administration after the Government of India’s Ministry of Statistics and Programme implementation published its latest Periodic Labour Force Survey which showed that 46.3 percent youth in JK are unemployed, second highest in India.
The report titled “Periodic Labour Force Survey April-June 2021” released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation shows that urban unemployment rate jumped to 12.6 percent in April-June 2021 from 9.3 percent in the previous quarter.
It also shows that J&K’s urban unemployment rate for 15-29 age group has reached 46.3 percent from the 44.1 percent in the previous quarter. As per the data, J&K’s unemployment in the educated category is the second highest unemployment rate after Kerala where the percentage stood at 47 percent.
