Srinagar, April 15, 2022: Yasir Basheer Bhawani is one such personality of J&K who has a rich intellectual and artistic background from Shahbad Dooru which has produced a number of local, national and international
reputed personalities from the field of art, culture and languages.
Having over 60 years of experience in theatre and other intellectual field, he gives full credit to his background
of belonging to an area of rich cultural tradition and believes that it was this background that gave him a new
direction in life to chase artistic dreams.
Yasir Basheer Bhawani started as a poet but was later convinced by Ali Mohammad Lone to venture into the
field of theatre even though he was a dramatist, painter and poet but believed that he can do wonders in
theatre.
Yasir Basheer Bhawani first faced the stage at the tender age in school days before none other than Bakshi
Ghulam Mohammed, the then Prime Minister of J&K and the applause that come to his share convinced him that this was the field that he wanted to look for in future.
Later he joined Maraz Adbi Sangam and was again encouraged to adopt Theatre as his main performing
platform.
And it was in 1977 that he organised first major activity where large number of intellectuals of the state
participated and gives credit for its success to his brother who helped him a lot and encouraged him to go
ahead.
From then onwards there was no looking back and he began a series of intellectual activity and drama festivals
in Dooru-Shahbad area thus giving a name to Mazaraaz Adbi Sangam and brought him district and state level
platform beside getting him many awards.
Yasir Basheer Bhawani says that it was Dr. Ratan Lal Shant who encouraged him to join NSD to harness his skills further when he was 29 years old.
