Jammu airport sees record footfall of 1.54 Lac passengers in March
The augmentation of facilities at the Jammu Airport and revoking of Covid restrictions seems to have started bearing fruit, as the winter capital Airport has achieved a milestone by recording the highest ever footfall at 1.54 lakh passengers in the month of March.
Officials said the airport is witnessing an increasing number of passengers this spring season. Earlier in October 2021, 1.36 lakh passengers had traveled on 1331 flights. With Covid pandemic ebbing, which had held the entire world hostage for the last two years and with the increasing facilities, Jammu Airport is becoming the choice of travelers and airlines companies. In the first three months of 2022 i.e. till March, 376497 passengers have traveled at the airport from 3467 flights.
There has been an increase in the number of passengers and flights at the airport since the Jammu airport’s runway expansion, night flight operations, removal of load penalties. Talking about the first three months of 2022, 1067 flights and 1.53 thousand passengers traveled in January, 1054 flights and 1.16 thousand passengers traveled in February.
A record 1346 flights and 1.54 lakh passengers traveled by air in March. The reason for the increasing graph of passengers is the introduction of direct flights to other cities including Delhi, Indore, improvement in the operational process including the introduction of overnight parking facility at Jammu Airport.
In the year 2021, 12.24 passengers traveled from Jammu Airport, while 12391 flights were operated. A record 1.53 lakh people traveled in December. At the same time, 9.93 lakh passengers traveled in 2020 with a total of 9898 flights operating.
As per a senior Jammu Airport official said, “Jammu Airport has recorded the highest number of flights and passengers till date in March. With the increase in facilities at Jammu Airport, the number of passengers is increasing”.
The situation also looking up in Kashmir valley has on Wednesday, the Srinagar International Airport crossed another milestone by recording the highest footfall of 16,110 daily passengers.
Kashmir is witnessing a record number of tourists from various parts of the country after travel restrictions due to the Covid were revoked. Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said Kashmir was witnessing a “golden period” on the tourism front as 80 lakh tourists have visited the J&K in the past few months alone, breaking all the records of the past 20 years.
