JKCA CONDOLES DEMISE OF PRANAV MAHAJAN
A condolence meeting was held at the Office of Jammu&Kashmir Cricket Association at Pavilion
Building, Jammu which was attended by prominent Ex-Cricketers to condole the sudden and
untimely demise of Ex-Ranji Player, Mr. Pranav Mahajan who passed away on Sunday while
participating in a Marathon Race at Fategarh Sahib, Punjab.
Glowing tributes were paid to Pranav Mahajan by the Ex-Cricketers and his former colleagues.
Pranav Mahajan had represented J&K in 10 First class matches and 6 List A matches. He was a left
arm pace bowler but had to leave cricket due to injuries. He was a fitness freak and after recovery
from injuries, apart from coaching youngsters in Cricket he took to Marathon racing and cycling.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dhruv Mahajan, Senior Men Selector, JKCA, and a colleague of Pranav
Mahajan, said that he was really shocked to hear the sad news. Pranav was not only an excellent
sportsman, but also a true friend and well wisher of others. Mr. Vidya Bhaskar, Chairperson Senior
Men Selection Committee proposed that the case be taken up with BCCI to provide financial
assistance to the grieved family. “He lived his life as a spirited sportsman and died also on the
sports field, what a befitting tribute to his sportsman spirit,” said Sandeep Singh, a former Ranji
player.
Brig. Anil Gupta (Retd.), Member Administration recalled his association with Pranav and his family
at RS Pura and praised him for being a decided cricketer as well as a social reformer. Pranav was
responsible for encouraging local youth to take up sports and avoid falling to the drug menance.
The meeting ended with 2 minutes silence to pay homage to the departed soul. “Loss of Pranav
Mahajan is a great set back to the Cricket Fraternity of J&K”, said Mr. Ashwani Gupta, Member
Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC). “He was equally popular in Kashmir as in Jammu which is
evident for the tributes being received from players and his fans in Kashmir,” remarked Roopali
Salathia, another member of the CAC.
