Rs.1371 Cr aid disbursed, 54 projects under execution: MHA
Since implementing the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP), a total of Rs.1371.13 Crore financial assistance has been disbursed to 31,670 beneficiaries in Jammu and Kashmir.
Further, Out of 63 projects, 54 projects are being implemented in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir with an outlay of Rs.58,627 crore.
On 7th November 2015, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Prime Minister’s Development Package, a Reconstruction Plan for Jammu and Kashmir involving an outlay of Rs..80,068 Crore. The Reconstruction Plan essentially rests on five Pillars- Humanitarian Relief, Crisis Management, Social Infrastructure Development Projects, and Economic Infrastructure.
The Reconstruction Plan aimed at expanding economic infrastructure, expanding the provision of basic services, providing thrust to employment and income generation and providing relief and rehabilitation to the victims of the September 2014 floods, and strengthening the Disaster Management Framework of the State. The Reconstruction Plan also seeks to strengthen the road infrastructure development projects in the J&K. Accordingly, 15 projects were sanctioned with a total cost of Rs.36938 Cr.
As per the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) annual report 2020-21, “Under PMDP-2015, financial assistance of Rs.5.50 lakh is also being disbursed to the 36,384 displaced families from PoJK, Chhamb, and Niabat settled in Jammu and Kashmir”.
“The Government of India has further approved similar financial assistance for inclusion of those Displaced Persons (DP) families, out of 5,300 DP families of PoJK 1947, who initially opted to move outside the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir but later on returned and settled in Jammu and Kashmir. The report said that a total of Rs.1371.13 Crore has been disbursed to 31,670 beneficiaries till 31st December 2020”, the report said.
The Government has also approved financial assistance of Rs.5.5 lakh per family of India with an outlay of Rs.317.02 crore for 5,764 families of West Pakistan Refugees (WPRs) who migrated from several areas of West Pakistan in the aftermath of the partition of 1947 and settled in different parts of the Jammu region. Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP-2015), it added.
“Prime Minister announced a development package of Rs.80,068 crore for the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir comprising of 63 major projects in critical sectors namely Road, Power, New, and Renewable Energy, Tourism, Health, Education, Water Resources, Sports, Urban Development, Defence, Textile, etc.”, it added.
“Out of 63 projects, 54 projects are being implemented in UT of J&K with an outlay of Rs.58,627 Crore. Twenty projects have been completed/ substantially completed, and others are at various stages of implementation. As of 30th November 2020, an amount of Rs.32,136 Crore has been released for various projects, out of which Rs.30,553 Crore have been utilized”, the annual report said.
