Over 42 percent of Class III students and 45% of class V students in Jammu and Kashmir experienced worry, anxiety, and fear during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The statistics were released by the Ministry of Education, Government of India in its report National Achievement Survey 2021. Last November, samples were taken from over 3 650 schools in Jammu and Kashmir, during which 6260 teachers and 79256 students of classes III, V, VIII, and X participated.
As per the Jammu and Kashmir state report card, the literacy rate stands at 67.2 percent, and there are 860 girls per 1000 boys (Child sex ratio 0-6 years).
Further, as per the report, 98% of students in class III-like to go to school, 77% of students use their home language as a medium of instruction in the class, 85% of CSWN students get facilitation from school, 97% of students could understand, what teachers teach in the class and 82% students get parental support for their educational achievement.
Regarding teachers, the survey reads that 20 teachers of class III have adequate institutional material and supplies, 33 teachers have a good workspace, teachers say they are overloaded with the work, and 40% of teachers have responded that the school building needs major repair.
It added, “29% of teachers have responded that there is a lack of drinking water facilities in school, 31% teachers have responded that there are inadequate toilet facilities in school, 53% teachers participated in the professional program, and 74% teachers have responded that the parents take an interest in school activities”.
Regarding express during a pandemic, the report reads, “43% students of class III have no digital device at home, 84% of students followed the Covid-19 hygiene protocols, 99% of understanding the protocols for Covid symptom reporting, 98% of students are aware of the measures to be taken for well being of the children and school staff”.
It added, “42% of students experienced worry, anxiety, and fear during a pandemic, 38% of students of class III are happy being myself at home, and 97 students know about the school reopening guidelines”.
In class V, the reports say, 98% of students like to go to school, 75% of students use the home language as a medium of instruction in the class, 80% of CSWN students get facilitation from school, 98% of students could understand, what teachers teach in the class and 80% students get parental support for their educational achievement.
Regarding teachers, the survey reads that 21 teachers of class V have adequate institutional material and supplies, 32% of teachers have a good workspace, 23% of teachers say that they are overloaded with the work, and 37% of teachers have responded that the school building needs major repair.
It added, “29% of teachers have responded that there is a lack of drinking water facilities in school, 30% teachers have responded that there are inadequate toilet facilities in school, 54% teachers participated in the professional program, and 73% teachers have responded that the parents take an interest in school activities”.
