Energy supplied increased by 6 pc, peak demand surged by 2.75%: PDD
The Power Development Department (PDD) has said that the energy supplied to Jammu and Kashmir has increased by 6 percent, whereas the peak demand has surged by 2.75%.
The development comes as huge infrastructure were added in Jammu and Kashmir under various centrally sponsored schemes, which include Deendayal Upadhaya Gram Jyoti Yogna, Integrated Power Development Scheme, and Prime Minister’s Development Package.
A senior official in the PDD said, “So much development has taken place in the last few years when it comes to the power supply and the infrastructure”.
Adding that, he said, “Peak demand met has been increased from 2579 MW during 2019-20 to 2650 MW in the year 2020-21, which is a surge of of 2.75%. At the same time, energy supplied has increased from 17079 MU during 2019-20, to 18091 MU in the Year 2020-21, which is a surge of 6%”.
The official further said that not only that we have added some gigantic infrastructure under centrally sponsored schemes, which has played a significant role in the increase of peak demand and energy supplied.
He added, “We have added seven new 220/132 kV Grid Sub Station, and two 220/132 kV Grid Sub Station have been augmented. At the same time, we have also added 18 new 132/33 kV Grid Sub Station across Jammu and Kashmir”.
“Also, the PDD has added 10 132/33 kV Grid Sub Station. Further 204.7 circuit km of new 220 kV Transmission line, 260.82 new 132 kV Transmission line has been added as well”, he added.
The official said, “During the year 2020-21, one new 132/66kV Grid Sub Station. Also, 8725 new Distribution Transformer (DT) was added, and at the same time, 385 Distribution Transformer was augmented by the PDD department”.
“Moreover, 200.186-kilometer of new 33kV lines were added by the PDD, whereas 5271.82-kilometer of LT lines were added in Jammu and Kashmir”, he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that Prime Minister’s new Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Plan 2015 was framed on the philosophy of 24×7 Power for All by 2019 and ensuring Fiscal Autonomy (EFA) of J&K for a new era in development.
The Plan amounting to Rs.11358.00 Crores for J&K Power Development Department was then sanctioned by the J&K State Planning and Development Department vide PD/2015-16/Coord-101/Reconstruction Plan dated: 14-12-2015 out of which an amount of more than Rs.3895 Crores was earmarked for distribution.
Whereas Ministry of Home Affairs earlier in its annual report 2020-21 had said that presently the Union Territory of J&K has harnessed the hydro potential of 3,504.90 MW against the estimated potential of 20,000 MW. At the same time, five more projects are under implementation, which is expected to add another 4,870 MWs of electricity to Jammu and Kashmir.
