547 sub centers, 557 PHCs established in last 16 years
With an objective to provide better health care facilities, the Jammu and Kashmir government has established 547 new Sub Centers and 557 Public Health Centers across the Union Territory in last years.
The data was revealed by the National Health Mission (NHM), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in its report Rural Health Statistics 2020-21.
As per the statistics, there were 1897 Sub Centers in Jammu and Kashmir in 2005, which has now increased to 2426 in 2021. Similarly, there were 334 Primary Health Centers in Jammu and Kashmir in 2005, which has risen to 889 in 2021. However, there has been a decrease in the number of Community Health Centers.
In 2005, Jammu and Kashmir had 70 Community Health Centers, which has now been reduced to 63.
Further, per the statistics, out of the 2426 Sub Centers, 750 are functioning in government hospitals, 1676 in rented buildings, while the rest are operating in rent-free Panchayat and vol. Society buildings. Similarly, out of the total number of 891 Primary Health Centers in Jammu and Kashmir, 648 are running on government buildings, and 243 are functioning on rented facilities.
Whereas all the 63 Community Health Centers in Jammu and Kashmir are being functioned from government buildings.
“Looking at the State-wise picture, it may be observed that the increase in in-position of an Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANMs) is attributed mainly to a significant increase in the States of West Bengal (9089), Rajasthan (4029), Uttar Pradesh (3684), Gujarat (3515), Karnataka (2850) and Jammu Kashmir (2830)”, the statistics read.
“Similarly, there is a significant increase in the number of doctors at Primary Health Centers in the States of Gujarat (831), Rajasthan (595), Tamil Nadu (468), Madhya Pradesh (468), and Jammu & Kashmir (322). In the case of specialists, an appreciable increase is noticed in the States of Tamil Nadu (203), Andhra Pradesh (98), Gujarat (43), and Jammu & Kashmir (39)”, it added.
