NH-44 closed for vehicular traffic amidst heavy overnight rainfall: J&K
In Jammu and Kashmir, the 270-kilometer-long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44), is the only all-weather surface link that connects Kashmir valley with rest of the country has been closed for vehicular traffic amidst heavy overnight rainfall.
Our correspondent reports that vehicular traffic on the National Highway has been temporarily suspended due to landslides triggered by heavy rain in Ramban Sector. Due to overnight rain multiple landslides have been triggered at Cafeteria Mode and a few more places between Ramban and Banihal. The Amarnath Yatra has been stopped at Chanderkote in Ramban district due to multiple landslides on the National Highway.
The work of clearing the National Highway has begun and it will take at least two to three hours for the restoration of vehicular movement if the road is clear traffic will be allowed on both sides of the National Highway. The restoration work and debris clearance operations are continuing on the National Highway on a war footing. However, the historic Mughal road, the alternate National Highway connecting the twin Border districts of Rajouri and Poonch of Jammu region with the Shopian district of Kashmir valley, is clear for vehicular traffic after remaining close for a few hours yesterday owing to some landslides triggered by heavy rainfall.
