Govt jobs not for sale, merit sole criterion for selection: CS
Jammu and Kashmir Government will not tolerate any wrongdoings in selection process for jobs in public sector as merit is the only criterion for entering into government service, Chief Secretary A K Mehta said on Monday.
“You should have faith that merit will be the only basis for selection (in government jobs). We won’t accept even one wrongdoing in the selection process, ” Mehta said at the launch of the Digital J&K, an awareness programme on services that can be availed online in the union territory.
He said if there are wrongdoings in providing government jobs, the cases will go to the CBI for investigation.
“They (culprits) will be given exemplary punishment. So, jobs will be given solely on the basis of merit, ” he added.
The chief secretary said there was a wrong perception that there were no jobs in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Let me tell you that Jammu and Kashmir government has given highest number of civilian jobs in its history last year. Jobs are there but they are not on the market (for sale),” he said.
Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated Digital Jammu and Kashmir week at SKICC in Srinagar with Chief Secretary Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta.
The Digital J&K week programme will showcase citizen centric IT initiatives that have helped in bringing about greater transparency in governance and ease of living for citizens.
Emphasizing the need to take effective measures providing last mile solution in digital services for the people of J&K, the Lt Governor directed the stakeholders to formulate short-term goals of 3-6 months & long-term vision statements to transform core ICT infrastructure, governance & services for ease of living, accessibility, innovation to transform J&K into digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.
On the occasion, the Lt Governor also launched ‘Digi Dost’ program aimed at developing a strong network of digitally empowered young volunteers at District, Block and Panchayat level who can work as the brand ambassadors for Digital J&K and Digital India to achieve maximum mobilization and awareness on digital services. ‘Digi Dost’ volunteers will also assist in digital service delivery, data collection, training, spreading information regarding Digital India campaign and make the people aware about cyber hygiene and cybercrimes.
He observed that ‘digitally empowered’ is a new yardstick to measure the present literacy rate. The programmes and initiatives launched today are part of the government’s efforts to bring ease, transparency & convenience in public service delivery, observed the Lt Governor.
He also asked the District Administrations to implement the goals of Digital J&K week in collaboration with civil society and PRIs.
Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, in his address said that various digital initiatives and services that will be promoted intensively during the Digital Jammu & Kashmir week would take the goal of “Minimum Government, Maximum Governance” to every nook and corner of the UT.
He further said that Digital Governance would bring immense prosperity and called for laying strict provisions for delaying services. He also shared the government’s vision in developing digital libraries.
