More than 9000 J&K youth don Armed uniform in last five years

More than 9000 youth from different areas of Jammu and Kashmir have joined Armed forces in last years.

“A total of 9285 youth from Jammu and Kashmir recruited in army as soldier in period between 2017 -2020, while 359 form Ladakh,” Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt informed upper house (Rajya Sabha) of Parliament through a written reply to series of questions raised by parliamentarian Deepender Singh Hooda.

He added that289 joined the Navy as sailors and 78 joined the Indian Air Force as airmen between 2017 to 2022.

The defence minister further said that recruitment in forces could not be possible due to the outbreak of COVID from the last two years but the process has been initiated and a calendar has been released for all 13 Army Recruiting Offices across the country. The Recruitment process will commence at Srinagar and Jammu from September this year.

“Recruitment Rally for Kashmir division and Ladakh will be commence conduct between 17 September to 30 September at Haiderbeig, Pattan, Baramulla while for 10 districts of Jammu the recruitment rallies will be conduct at Zorawar Stadium, Sunjwan between 7 to 20 October,” the government informed.

In another reply, Government of India informed that there are 9326 officers among 1, 36,956 vacant posts in all three wings (Indian Army, Navy and Indian Air Force) of Armed Forces.

The government further admitted that due to COVID recruitment rallies for recruiting soldiers, sailors and airmen could not be complete for last two years.

“A total 9326 officers among 1, 36,956 vacant posts in Indian Army, Navy and Indian Air Force of the armed forces. 1,16,464 posts laying vacant in Indian Army, 13,597 in the Indian Navy and 6895 posts vacant in the Indian Air Force,” Minister of State for Defence Ajay Bhatt informed upper house (Rajya Sabha) of Parliament through a written reply to series of questions raised by parliamentarian Deepender Singh Hooda.

The reply further stated that in the Indian Army, there are 7308 vacancies for officers, 471 vacancies for Military Nursing Service (MNS) Officers and 1,08,685 vacancies for Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs/OR.)
In the Indian Navy, 1446 posts are vacant for Officers, while 12,151 vacancies are for Sailors.

In the Indian Air Force, 572 posts are vacant for Officers while 6362 vacancies available for Airmen.

The reply said that a number of recruitment rallies were conducted in the year 2021 and 2022 but the process could not be completed due to COVID-19.
