Commonwealth Games: India’s schedule on Day 6
On Day 6 of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, India’s star players, including Nikhat Zareen, Manpreet Kaur and Mohammad Hussamuddin will be in action today. Women’s Cricket Team will also hog the limelight.
In the first match for Team India today, Mridul Borgohain is currently playing Chris Locke of Falkland Islands in the men’s singles in Lawn Bowls. After ten ends of throws in Round-2 game, Mridul was leading 15-4 when reports last came in. In the Women’s Pairs category, Lovely Choubey and Nayanmoni Saikia extended their lead over Niue’s pair of Hina Rereiti and Olivia Eunice Buckingham to 10-4 after nine ends of throws.
In Boxing, Nikhat Zareen will play her quarterfinal in Women’s 50 kg category, Nitu Ganghas will box in her QF match against Nicole Clyde of Northern Ireland. In Men’s 57 kg category, Mohammad Hussamuddin will also play his quarterfinal game.
In Women’s Cricket, India will play Barbados. India eves will be looking to pull off their second consecutive win in the competition. In their opening game, they put up a stupendous performance, beating Pakistan last Sunday.
In Weightlifting, India’s Lovpreet Singh will be in action in Men’s 109 kg category, Purnima Pandey in women’s 87kg and Gurdeep Singh men’s 109kg category.
In Judo, Tulika Mann is set to play in Women’s 78 kg quarterfinals. In the Men’s 100 kg Round of 16 match, Deepak Deswal will take on Eric Jean Sebastian of Cameroon.
India’s Para Table Tennis contingent will start its campaign from 3.10 P.M. onwards, with Bhavina Patel, Sonalben Patel and Baby Sahana Ravi in action. From 3.30 P.M. onwards, the Indian Women’s Hockey team will continue their campaign against Canada.
Mixed Squash duo of Joshna Chinappa and Sandhu will be in action in Round of 32 match against Sri Lanka. Action will once again move to Lawn Bowls area from 4:00 P.M. onwards, with next Mridul Borgohain playing his next match against Scotland’s Ian McClean and Indian Women’s Pairs team playing their next game against South Africa.
On Day 5 of the Games, Team India won a gold in the women’s four lawn bowls event. This was the country’s first medal in the sport.
In the medals tally, India is placed at the 6th spot, with a total of 13 medals comprising five golds, five silvers and three bronzes.
