Foreign Minister of China Wang Yi will arrive in Dhaka on Saturday for a two-day visit. Talking to the media in Dhaka on Thursday, Bangladesh State Foreign Minister Shahriar Alam said that during his two-day visit, the Chinese Foreign Minister will hold bilateral meetings with Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen during which issues of bilateral and global importance will be discussed.
Wang Yi will call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday before departing from Bangladesh. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader will host a dinner for Wang Yi on Saturday evening, reports UNB.
Shahriar Alam said that both the countries are likely to sign MoUs and agreements including those related to disaster management and cultural exchange. The Minister said that the relationship between the two countries is ‘deep and wide’ and that the two countries will discuss areas of future cooperation.
Replying to a question, Shahriar Alam said that Bangladesh will seek a stronger role from China in the repatriation of Rohingya refugees to Myanmar.
Earlier, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen had said that taking any new loan from China is not on the agenda of discussion this time. Bangladesh has maintained that it is a routine visit by the Chinese Foreign Minister as he is visiting several countries in the region.
