Stock Market: Sensex appreciates 122 points, Nifty trades above 17,700

The Sensex and the Nifty today witnessed modest gains in the afternoon trade. Both stock indices were added amid positive cues from global share markets.

The Sensex was trading above 59,400 level while the Nifty was trading above 17,700 points.

The Sensex rose 122 points, or 0.21 percent, to trade at 59,455. The Nifty also appreciated 45 points, or 0.25 percent, to trade at 17,704.

In the forex market, the rupee weakened eight paise to trade at 79 rupees and 71 paise against the US dollar in the afternoon deals.
