Azad ‘uncomfortable’ in new ‘scheme of things’…!
It is neither a story about not having been consulted nor on health grounds attributed to refusal of veteran Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad in accepting new position for UT of J&K.
It is all about ‘feeling uncomfortable’ in the new order of things and the ‘system’ that has emerged after overhaul of the J&K unit effected two days back.
Soon after the announcement of big changes made in the JKPCC it was rumoured or sought to be understood that Azad was not consulted in this reshuffle particularly for the post of new president Vikar Rasool.
However, this is not true as Azad very much supported his name from among st four other probable senior leaders though his personal equation with them was also good, sources very close to Azad confided.
This was corroborated when the central leadership sought to clear the air stating he was consulted a couple of times and his suggestions were incorporated.
So the consultation theory doesn’t hold any weight, albeit something wrong happened actually while incorporating or ignoring some of his suggestions, sources said.
Second, a senio rmost leader who defies his age in so far as his relentless working is concerned doesn’t make decisions on the pretext of health.
“Only a couple of months back in front of a huge gathering he declared he is willing to work for a period as long as 12 hours a day for re energizing the party cadres in J&K…it was an honest commitment that came and triggered them into action mode…..” said a senior leader saying what suddenly went wrong is a moot question and health front excuse is certainly unpalatable for workers and cadres in general who are upset with developments related to Azad.
The real story : Ghulam Nabi Azad who has held highest post of Chief Minister and equally important posts at Centre finds himself completely ‘unfit and uncomfortable’ with some functionaries with whom he name has been associated in the new committee.
He was very much willing to give a meaningful direction to the party unit in paralytic mode but he did not want the responsibility to be entrusted under this ‘nomenclature’ along with some leader far more junior to him.
This came as a surprise for him too as he never expected the assignment in that mode, said the sources. He felt hurt and what has upset him is the fact this has been done deliberately to ‘show him down’ by a coterie of functionaries close to Rahul Gandhi.
In nutshell it is Rahul Gandhi’s casual approach or his habit of putting stamp almost blindly to what this coterie finalizes ignoring the implications.
However, the vital part of the developments remain that Azad still enjoys a better bonding with Sonia Gandhi and therefore has no grudges for the big changes effected understandably at the second line of leadership.
