Mata Vaishno Devi Pilgrims soon to get RFID card facility

To keep tabs on pilgrims in case they go missing besides keeping watch on mischievous elements, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board is all set to introduce Radio Frequency Identification Card (RFID) facility for the devotees.

The card has to be worn by devotees at the time of trekking the 13-kms long track from base camp Katra to Bhawan.

“The RFID card will surely be of great use to track the pilgrims throughout the journey,” an official said, adding that the card has to be deposited at the entrance of Darshani Deodhi by the pilgrims on return.

“The card facility will be issued free of cost and special counters were set up by the Shrine Board to issue the fully laminated fiber-rich RFID card,” he revealed.

The counters will be set up at Niharika, Katra Railway Station Yatra Registration Centers and at Inter-State Yatra Registration Center.

“Presently, the practice of Yatra Photo Slip being issued to the pilgrims will be completely stopped and within the next few days RFID Yatra Card will be available to the pilgrims in its place,” he said and added that antennas will also be installed along the route for tracking system function.

However, he said that 15,000 to 20,000 devotees are reaching Katra base camp to perform the trek.
