Attempt to disturb peace, lure youth towards drug abuse will face befitting reply, says LG

The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha on Thursday said every effort to disrupt peace and to lure youngsters towards drug abuse will face counter-moves as security forces are committed to foil all bids aimed at pushing narcotics in J&K.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Jammu, the LG, said that on the eve of August 15, he stated that his administration was committed to make J&K a drug free place.

“All the efforts being made by (our neighbour) to push narcotics into this side will face a counter move. Security forces are committed and working on multiple fronts including the one to foil all bids being made to push in narcotics consignments into J&K,” he said, adding that “every move aimed at disrupting peace will face a befitting reply.”

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also announced that all three exams of Sub Inspectors in Jammu and Kashmir Police, Financial Accounts Assistants (FAAs) and JE Civil which were recently cancelled due to irregularities will be held in the month of October and other vacant positions will be filled within the next six to eight months.
The LG was speaking during the launch of month-long campaign for NashaMukt Jammu Kashmir in Jammu. He said that the administration will not tolerate any irregularity and people involved in the recruitment scam will not be spared.

“There was a time when jobs were sold in Jammu and Kashmir but now that time has gone and only merit and competence of youth will matter,” he said.
He however said that some people trying to bring that time again and involve money in recruitment.

“We received complaints of irregularities in these examinations. There were doubts among people’s minds. A high-level Committee was immediately constituted to examine (the irregularities). All three exams were found doubtful and cancelled in no time. The probe was handed over to Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI),” Sinha said.

He said that those who tried to play with career of youth by indulging in irregularities in the exams will not be spared and stern action will be taken against them under law.

However, the Lieutenant Governor said he realised the problems faced by the genuine candidates (due to cancellation of the examinations) but assured that those who have ability will clear the exams again. He announced that all three examinations will be held in the month of October.

Moreover, the Lt Governor said that more vacancies in other departments will be advertise and fill in next six to eight months.

Earlier, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that administrative reforms introduced by the UT Government and efforts made in the last two years brought the youth of J&K out of the darkness of drug addiction.

“J&K has been ranked second in the country for the outstanding performance in anti-drug campaign and was honored by the Home Minister,” he said adding “much more is required to be done in this direction to eradicate the drug menace from the society”.

He sought cooperation of all sections of society for the success of the ‘NashaMukt’ campaign and lauded security forces personnel for their alertness and the seizure of huge quantity of smuggled drugs in the Union Territory.

Asked about continuous attempts by Pakistan to push narcotics into Jammu and Kashmir, he said there has been a large seizure of drugs compared to previous years and we will continue our efforts to ensure that such type of activities do not take place.

“J&K Government along with the police, army and other security agencies is working with resolute determination to thwart the neighboring country’s malafide intentions,” he added.

He also passed a direction to set up more Integrated Rehabilitation Centers and ensuring their effectiveness.
“I am sure that the campaign of drug-free village, drug-free city and drug-free town will prove to be helpful in making Jammu and Kashmir free from drugs,” the Lt Governor further added.

The Lt Governor asked all the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that sports camps are also organized to channelize the young energies through sports activities.

On the occasion, the Lt Governor flagged off a Swasth Rath and a Police bike rally for spreading awareness among people against the harmful and fatal effects of the menace of drug abuse. A pledge against Drug Abuse was also administered, besides a short Skit on Drug Abuse by the students of GGM Science College was also presented.

Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary , Dr. Abhishek Chowhan, Psychiatrist, ShaleenKabra, Principal Secretary, Jal Shakti Department; Rohit Kansal, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department; Sheetal Nanda, Commissioner/Secretary, Social Welfare Department; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; AvnyLavasa, Deputy Commissioner Jammu; Vivek Sharma, Director General Social Welfare Jammu; Dr Ravi Shanker Sharma, Director School Education Jammu; Pallvi Project Director, State Level Coordinating Agency, besides other officers and people were present on the occasion.

Moreover, LG Manoj Sinha will inaugurate multiple development projects in Jammu, said officials on Thursday.
As per official’s sources, LG Sinha will attend a function at Conventional Center, Jammu at 10 am and will lay foundation stone of various projects under Jammu Smart City Limited.
The LG will also inaugurate already completed projects of Jammu city on the occasion.
