Rural electrification
The Jammu and Kashmir administration has achieved the target of rural electrification before its scheduled time with Rs. 100 crores funding from the Central government.
The government also Rs .100 crore gift from the Central Government to Jammu and Kashmir made the administration achieve the 100 percent target of rural electrification before the scheduled time.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har GhaYojnaSaubhagya, the target for rural electrification in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been achieved successfully.
The target was accomplished before the stipulated time. The Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the scheme Saubhagya on September 25 in 2017 to provide electricity to every village in the country for which Rs. 16320 crore was allocated.
Under the scheme, the rural areas which have not seen the electricity supply even after 73 years of independence, were connected.
A stand-alone power system based on solar photovoltaic was made available to illuminate rural houses. The &K Power Development Department has worked hard to provide electricity to every household in the village and as a result, 357405 houses have been electrified across the Union Territory. Although it was not an easy task to reach the remote villages in the hilly and inaccessible areas of Jammu and Kashmir, the government fulfilled the dream of the people by making impossible into possible.
The Saddal village of Udhampur and Ganauri Tanta of Doda districts are among few such examples where households saw electricity for the first time after independence.
Similarly, the inhabitants of the far reaching area of Nowshahra in Rajouri also got the benefit of the Saubhagya scheme of the Central Government. This area was without electricity for a long time.
Many companies are engaged under the scheme to provide electricity to every household while the government has also launched an app for rural electrification for transparent working of the department and implementation of the scheme on ground.
Moreover, to turn the dream of providing uninterrupted supply to the consumers into a reality, the Jammu and Kashmir government is on its toes and making all out efforts to reform this sector.
However, as a part of the initiatives being taken to better the power scenario, the power supply has been enhanced by 2451 MW since the year 2019.
For the economic betterment of Jammu and Kashmir, works are underway on priority to provide good roads, uninterrupted electricity and water supply to the people. If the work continue with same pace all the power related issues will be addressed soon.
