New Delhi pushing key leaders into Azad camp?
As the Ghulam Nabi Azad factor continues to play turbulence on J&K’s political turf, it has started impacting scenario on the level of communities in the UT, courtesy power lobbies in New Delhi which are pushing key leaders in both the regions towards Azad camp.
Sources said big names from Congress and other parties apart who stood in support of Azad within hours of his quitting the parent party, there are now leaders who may not be so prominent yet wielding weight in some way or the other who are gradually getting into fold of Ghulam Nabi Azad.
They may be lesser known names unlike the bigger ones like ex ministers and ex legislators but over the last three years they have surely emerged as power centres and suddenly assumed eminence in respective areas and the circles of their not just own communities but in the entire political corridors of Kashmir, sources said.
Haroon Choudhray from Larnoo in South Kashmir is one such name who joined Azad camp two days back and created a sort of commotion as this was unexpected and perhaps undesired by some leaders from his own community, sources said.
Interestingly, his erstwhile political rival Gulzar choudhary who was associated with PDP went with the flow of Azad charisma and also joined this camp prior to him.
It may be recalled during DDC polls Haroon Choudhary and Gulzar Choudhary contested as rival members.
While the latter was projected as GUpkar Alliance joint candidate, Haroon who until then was with NC, upon denial of ticket contested as independent. It was after a marathon session of ‘battle’ post polls by way of recounting procedures Haroon’s wife was eventually declared as winner of the seat.
However, this battle pushed Haroon close to power circles both in the UT as well as in Delhi and he began to call shots in matters of even administrative , police postings as also managed to have say in other key issues, sources said.
Haroon Choudhary’s role in reframing constituencies in the new Delimitation Commission report is among recent active assignments which raised eyebrows in political parties of Kashmir.
