Sensex and Nifty witnessed modest losses in afternoon trade

The Sensex and the Nifty today witnessed modest losses in the afternoon trade. Both stock indices fell in sync with losses in the global share markets. The Sensex was trading below 60,400 level while the Nifty was trading near 18,000 mark.

The Sensex lost 196 points, or 0.32 percent, to trade at 60,376. The Nifty also declined 55 points, or 0.3 percent, to trade at 18,015 when the reports last came in.

In the forex market, the rupee also weakened 31 paise to trade at 79 rupees and 45 paise against the US dollar in the afternoon deals.
