Maharashtra: Nirmala Sitharaman begins 3-day visit to Baramati Lok Sabha constituency from today
Senior BJP leader and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is on a three-day visit to the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency of Maharashtra from today. Baramati Lok Sabha constituency is one among the 16 constituencies in Maharashtra where the Bharatiya Janata Party is making additional efforts to make inroads in the saffron outfit. While talking to party workers, she said that her visit should not be considered as a preparation for the Lok Sabha polls in 2024, but as steps to strengthen the organization.
She exhorted the party workers to win the Baramati Lok Sabha seat, saying that she has come with a status report on how Maharashtra has implemented the central government schemes. Sitharaman, who is also the corporate affairs minister said, it is necessary for the party workers to know which schemes were pending implementation and the work did not take place during the previous Maha Vikas Aghadi government. During her tour, Ms. Sitharaman will take stock of the party’s work in the six assembly segments that fall under this parliamentary constituency. The six constituencies include Daund, Indapur, Khadakwasla, Purandar, Bhor, and Baramati. Out of these six assembly seats, the BJP MLAs are on the Daund and Khadakwasla seats.
As part of its outreach programme, Central leaders of the BJP are visiting the constituencies and trying to connect a chord with the people in the constituencies. The BJP has figured out 144 seats in five states of the country where the party had emerged at the second position by losing with a slender margin. In the past 15 days, another BJP leader and Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur had carried out a whirlwind tour of the Kalyan and Mumbai South Central Lok Sabha constituencies.
NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s daughter Supriya Sule is the current member of parliament from the Baramati constituency. While her cousin and leader of the opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Ajit Pawar is the MLA for the past three decades. In the 2014 General election, Rashtriya Samaj Party president Mahadev Jankar had given a tough fight to Supriya Sule.
