Sensex loses 776 points; Nifty declines 222 points in afternoon trade

The Sensex and the Nifty today witnessed losses of more than one percent in the afternoon trade. Both indices declined amid a fall in the global share markets. The Sensex was trading below 58,400 points while the Nifty was trading near 17,400  level.

The Sensex lost 776 points, or 1.31 percent, to trade at 58,344. The Nifty also declined 222 points, or 1.26 percent, to trade at 17,408.

In the forex market, the rupee also depreciated nine paise to trade at 80 rupees and 96 paise against the US dollar in afternoon deals.
