Italy’s right-wing alliance led by Giorgia Meloni looks set to win: Exit Polls

In Italy, a right-wing alliance led by Giorgia Meloni looks set to win a clear majority in the next parliament. According to media reports, exit polls showed the alliance led by Ms. Meloni’s Brothers of Italy party had secured around 45 percent of the vote. The party had 26 percent of the vote, emerging as the strongest single group in the polls.

The center-left alliance, led by the Democratic Party, was the second-strongest bloc, with 29 percent of the vote.

Speaking early today, Giorgia Meloni said that Italians had sent a clear message in backing her alliance. Her remarks came shortly after the main center-left group, the Democratic Party, conceded defeat.

Media reports say Ms. Meloni is widely expected to form Italy’s most right-wing government since World War Two.
