Stock Market: Sensex losses 213 points, Nifty declines 63 points to trade at 16,944

The Sensex and the Nifty today fell less than a percent in the afternoon trade. Both indices witnessed modest losses amid mixed global cues. The Sensex was trading above 56,000 level while the Nifty was trading at about the 16,950 mark.

The Sensex lost 213 points, or 0.37 percent, to trade at 56,895. The Nifty also declined 63 points, or 0.37 percent, to trade at 16,944.

In the forex market, the rupee also depreciated to trade at 81 rupees and 91 paise against the US dollar in afternoon deals.
