AICC Presidential Elections: Over 300 PCC delegates from J& K to cast votes

Over three hundred delegates have been selected by the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) to cast vote in the election for the party’s national president.

Sources told  that the, AICC president’s election in Jammu and Kashmir would be conducted under Member of Parliament of the Rajya Sabha Ranjeet Ranjan, who had been appointed as Observer.

Sources said 339 party delegates from Jammu and Kashmir will vote to elect new president Separate polling stations will be set up at the party headquarters in both regions Jammu and Srinagar.

They added that the high command has not sent any voter list or other material regarding the preparations for the elections.

Party sources said that assistant returning officers will also be posted separately for the party headquarters in Jammu and Srinagar. Delegates of the State Congress Committee will vote in the election.

Party’s chief spokesperson Ravindra Sharma informed that the election related information will be received soon.
The elections for the post of Congress President are being held after a long time. Presently party’s top position is being secured by Sonia Gandhi.

The polling will take place on October 17 amid concerted efforts by Congress for an image makeover by shunning nepotism and dynasty politics and calling for ensuring “one person one post”.

The party’s Central Election Authority announced that only two leaders — Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor — are in the fray for the top post.

Earlier, JKPCC had passed a resolution to support Rahul Gandhi as president. Jammu and Kashmir Congress party in-charge Rajni Patil among workers passed resolutions in favor of Rahul Gandhi. However, Rahul Gandhi is not contesting the election; there is no enthusiasm among the workers about the election, although they will definitely vote on the orders of the Delegate Party.
