Sensex, Nifty fall more than half percent in afternoon trade

The Sensex and the Nifty today fell more than half a percent in the afternoon trade. Both indices declined amid negative cues from the global share markets.

The Sensex was trading below 57,700 points while the Nifty was trading near 17,100 level.

The Sensex plunged 361 points, or 0.62 percent, to trade at 57,630.

The Nifty also declined 120 points, or 0.7 percent, to trade at 17,121.

In the forex market, the rupee weakened seven paise to trade at 82 rupees and 40 paise against the US dollar in afternoon deals.
