Stock Market: Sensex climbs 280 points, Nifty gains 79 points to trade at 17,063

The Sensex and the Nifty today gained around half a percent in the afternoon trade. Both indices rose even as the cues from global share markets were negative. The Sensex was trading above 57,400 points while the Nifty was trading above the 17,000 mark.

The Sensex climbed 280 points, or 0.49 percent, to trade at 57,427. The Nifty also gained 79 points, or 0.47 percent, to trade at 17,063.

In the forex market, the rupee weakened four paise to trade at 82 rupees and 36 paise against the US dollar in afternoon deals.
