PHDCCI organizes awareness program on Gastrointestinal Oncology
PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry Jammu Chapter (PHDCCI) in association with PHDCCI Hospital & Diagnostics Committee and BLK Max Super Speciality Hospital organized an awareness program on Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology. Rahul Sahai, senior member of PHDCCI Jammu chapter, in his opening remarks said that Health and health care need to be distinguished from each other for no better reason than that the former is often incorrectly seen as a direct function of the latter.
“Heath is clearly not the mere absence of disease. Good Health confers on a person or group’s freedom from illness – and the ability to realize one’s potential. Health is therefore best understood as the indispensable basis for defining a person’s sense of well being,” he added. He also said that Medical technology has given us endless possibilities. “Newer treatments, smarter therapies and breakthroughs in healthcare have put us steps ahead of some of the most life threatening diseases.

But in the absence of awareness, these advancements fail to serve their purpose,” he added. Awareness is the stepping stone towards fighting the most critical disease battles, he asserted. Bhupinder Kumar, Administrative Secretary, Health & Medical Education, was the chief guest of the programme. He joined the session through virtual mode. While addressing the delegates, he said that screening and early detection of cancer is very important.
He said that complete screening should be done for a person above the age of 30 years. He shared that a dedicated cancer unit is coming up in Jammu. AIIMS at Vijaypur will have a full-fledged department of Oncology. Dr. Amir Mushtaq Parray, Consultant, Gastrointestinal & Minimal Access Surgery, BLK Max Super Speciality Hospital was the key speaker of this awareness session.
He gave a detailed presentation on Gastrointestinal Oncology. Delegates present in the session asked several question to Dr. Amir who answered them and cleared their queries. The awareness session was moderated by Amarpreet Singh, Resident Officer & Head PHDCCI Jammu Office.
