German Interior Ministry sacks head of Federal Office for Information Security

German Interior Ministry sacked the head of the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), Arne Schönbohm, with immediate effect from his duties. Earlier, German media have accused him of having had links with people involved with Russian intelligence services.

The interior ministry in a statement said, Mr. Schoenbohm was dismissed because the allegations had permanently damaged the necessary public confidence in the neutrality and impartiality of his conduct in office.

Media reports say, The interior ministry is also investigating allegations made against him.

Mr. Schoenbohm co-founded the Cyber Security Council Germany to advise companies and authorities on cybersecurity matters in 2012 before 2016 being appointed head of the BSI.
