After corruption, SMC Mayor alleges illegal appointments by NC leaders

After corruption, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) Mayor Junaid Azim Mattu has now alleged that illegal appointments were made in the department by the National Conference (NC) leaders.

The SMC Mayor has alleged that illegal appointments were made and facilitated in the Left River Works Division of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.

In a series of Tweets, Mayor said, “Multiple illegal appointments of kin of NC leaders and representatives facilitated in the Left River Works Div. of SMC. Salaries disbursed electronically! Appointees include the wife of an elected NC rep undergoing a formal ACB investigation and cousin of an NC youth leader”.

Illegal appointees (appointed through forgery and connivance in the LRWD Section, the Accounts & Bill Sections) ALSO include friends of the NC elected representative. Attendance for 3 such fake appointees given through his own office. Another SMC Corporator involved, Mayor said.

Adding that he said, Digital proof for all such illegal and fake appointments exists in the form of salary bank deposits from SMC to these individual accounts for more than a year! A Section Officer of the Division is the main facilitator for this racket. Is currently under suspension.

How this illegality could go on for more than a year (2018-19 onwards) is a matter of grave concern. Even more alarming is that this raised no red flags. An official complaint with irrefutable proof is being submitted for administrative and penal action in the matter, Mayor said.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier this month SMC Mayor Junaid Mattu claimed that a lakh of rupees in bribes has been transferred to an elected representative of SMC in the last two years.

Mayor had said that lakhs of rupees in bribes have been found to be deposited electronically into the bank account of an elected representative in SMC over the course of the last two years. “The amount is roughly 1.4 crores with individual transactions running into lakhs”, he said.

While a week later, the Mayor requested Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to ensure that the criminals are brought to justice and the gullible citizens they have extorted, conned and plundered get to see justice.
I have absolutely no doubt that office of LG Sinha office will ensure swift, visible justice”, Junaid Mattu said in a tweet.
