Jammu, November 05, 2022: Shakun Malik of Team HemAth, a well-known social organisatio based in USA lists the priorities of the organisation under its programme Wata Havuk, to empower the women of Kashmiri Pandit community living in exile.
In our series of ThePagahConversation Bharati Kaul talks to Shakun Malik and her team of HemAth during their programme “Wata Havuk” at Jagti Township.
Hemath recently organised a programme at Jagti Township to display the talent of their women whom the organisation is giving skilled training for various jobs related to Kashmiri pandit to preserve the old tradition and also give a secondary earning to the displaced women.
Shakun Malik, Founder CEO of HemAth is a physician by profession specialising in Oncology and has remained the president of Kashmir Overseas Association (KAO) for two terms.
Shakun Malik while deliberating about HemAth’s “Wata Havuk” said that she has been visiting India particularly Jammu where she organised some medical camps and after serving her term at KOA, she decided to create something to help the underprivileged women of her community which gave birth to HemAth and now “Wata Havuk”
She says that all of her team mates are volunteers who work for the welfare of the community to contribute their bit towards the displaced community.
Talking about the current event she said that their organisation tried to impart training to displaced wone of Kashmiri pandit community at Jagti and started with Athoor making for which online classes were organised and said that she was happy that women eagerly participated in the event and made beautiful Athoors.
She said that now the organisation is imparting training for hand embroidery for which the Hemath has arranged a teacher from Delhi who is imparting on spot training to the women adding the enthusiasm of the women was exciting and the organisation is encouraged to do more in the days to come.
She said that Hemath has a volunteer lady who is in fashion designing and will be teaching the ladies about new concepts keeping the traditional work intact.
Rasika Raina who is also here in Jammu talking about “Wata Havuk” informed that Wata Havuk is a 24-week programme where selected nine young girls from the community were selected who would get a personal mentor where One to One Monitoring will be provided by highly accomplished Senior Global Leaders and enhance their skills and explore possibilities for them and fine tune their hidden talents.
