Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives due to the stone quarry collapse in Mizoram. He announced an ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given 50 thousand rupees.
Our Correspondent reports that 10 bodies have been recovered till this morning from the debris of the stone quarry that collapsed in a massive landslide at Hnahthial district on Monday.
Two more missing workers are yet to be traced. The search operations for the missing persons are being carried out by the NDRF team including Assam Rifles and Border Security Force.
Deputy Commissioner of the district R.L alremsanga said that out of the recovered bodies, 5 persons are migrant workers from West Bengal and two each from Assam and Jharkhand and one from Mizoram.
The tragic incident took place when a stone quarry at Maudarh village near Hnahthial town collapsed on the workers who were busy with the digging works under a brick and infrastructure company.
