Bahu circuit set to get major facelift with whooping 25 cr

After years of neglect, government has finally given a go ahead to the much-awaited infrastructure upgrade and facelift of Bahu circuit at whopping Rs.20 crores.

The Jammu Smart City (JSC) under its Infrastructure Development Programme for Tourism corridor belt will revamp the Bahu Circuit, the ancient fort containing a temple dedicated to Goddess Kali overlooking spacious garden and biggest Fish Aquarium.

As per government’s plan, Bahu Fort, which has witnessed some important moments in the history of Jammu, is going to get a major facelift with the creation of green spaces, heritage streets, façade lightning and laser show for which more than half a dozen works worth several crores are going on.

Officials right from BalidanStambh to Mohmaya Temple, works are going on war footing to completely revamp the circuit and make it a tourism attraction in the city.

The project has been initiated by the Jammu and Kashmir Government under it along with the assistance of Smart City project.

Speaking to The News Now, Jammu Municipal Commissioner (JMC) Rahul Yadav said that Bahu circuit is a very important part of Jammu city and will become a major commercial hub and tourist’s attraction after completion of several ongoing works.

“There will be no dark spot or gray space on entire Bahu Road, which leading to BaweWali Mata temple and Bagh-e-Bahu Park,” he said, adding, “Government is planning to create heritage facades on all the shops of Mahakali Market to BaweWali Mata temple, which is being made with a uniform designed red stones.” Sources said that around 4 Crores embarked for the said project.

Yadav added that the project will give a unique identity to Bahu Circuit and increase tourist inflow to the Mahakali market, which will improve the commercial lifeline of the area as well”.

Furthermore, Yadav added that under the beautification project, entrance gates of Bahu Fort, which leads to the BaweWali Temple at hillock will be developed along with the heritage walls with paintings and mural art at important places.

Commissioner Yadav said that around 3 crore works is going on to develop a rotary near BalidanStambh (entry point of Bahu Fort), where park, pathways, fountains and visitor garden planned to enthrall the tourist.
Furthermore, under Jammu Smart City repair of lanes and drains are going on, which will be followed by construction of footpaths and installation of antique designed poles for smart street lights. He further added that maintenance of the entire stretch will also be carried out in a similar pattern.

“The area will create beautified spaces with the heritage character to ensure that the tourism industry sustains,” he added. The entire Fort complex will get improved façade lighting at a cost of Rs 2.25 crores besides developing the water ATM’s and public toilets.

Yadav said that beside the beautification of Park and Fort, the government will also beautify the spaces and buildings like schools, dispensary under government’s control with murals, arts and wall paintings.
Earlier, the Bahu temple complex was redesigned, which gave a heritage look to the temple complex. Laser show and façade lighting of Bahu Fort complex was also completed with building a fish aquarium, cable car project, large green space and parking near Fort complex.

At Bagh-E-Bahu park the water channels and fountains were replaced using mostly modern techniques. Focus is to fully utilise land, especially underdeveloped 35 kanals reclaimed at various points. It will be utilized to develop a fun zone.
