Soon, mobile app to guide tourists visiting in J&K

Aiming to increase tourist’s footfall and develop Jammu as Independent destination, the government has decided to launch mobile application containing information about different tourist sites and to develop Jammu’s Buddhist circuit.

“The Tourism department was directed to immediately launch a Mobile App containing information about different tourist sites to connect each other and give a flip to tourism industry of Jammu and its adjoining areas” officials privy to the development said.

The official further added that the Mobile Application aimed to interlink the prominent tourism sites with geo-mapping and directions for easement of coming tourists besides providing information about registered hotels, restaurants, home stay options in the particular areas with mode of transport and contact details of trusted travel partners.

They said that the first of its kind mobile applications will also provide information about local festivals, cuisines and comprehensive information about the top shopping zones.

The matter was discussed in the details during first Oriented and Co-ordinated planning meet for all allied departments for the vision document in relation to beautification, tourism and culture plan of Jammu city.

The meeting was chaired by Jammu Municipal Commissioner (JMC), Mayor Rajinder Sharma along with different line departments. Members of the Executive Committee, Commissioner JMC, Director Archaeology and Museum, Joint Director Tourism, Joint Director Floriculture, Officers from JMC, other line departments and representatives of Dharmarth Trust were also present in the meeting.

The meetings also discuss the detail plan to explore innovative ideas to promote tourism in the adjoining areas of Jammu like Jia Pota Ghat, Akhnoor, Ambaran as these are historical places of Buddhists Monastic complex which is also a strong physical proof of vibrant Buddhist phase in Jammu.

Officials said that to develop Buddhist tourist circuit in the region, Tourism Department asked to chalk out a comprehensive strategy to boost footfall at ancient site, which was discovered during excavations by Srinagar Circle of Archaeological Survey of India.

Speaking during the meeting, Mayor Sharma said that priority should be to glorify our culture and heritage. He asked to explore the possibility of creating a replica to showcase the history of war heroes at Balidan Stambh, possibilities developing world class water sports on the pattern of Mumbai near Golf Course, Har-ki-Podi, development and promotion of Gharana Wetland.

A Committee of different departments was also constituted with the Joint Commissioner (Adm.), JMC as its Nodal officer.

“The beautification helps a tourism entity grow by attracting more visitors, providing positive word of mouth publicity, creating an inviting environment that tends to lift the spirits of service personnel and creates community pride,” the mayor underlines.
