UGC to announce Four Year Under-Graduate Programme by Monday
The University Grants Commission (UGC) will announce the Four-Year Under-Graduate Programme (FYUP) by Monday. It will be adopted in higher education institutions from 2023-24 academic session.
The FYUP will split the four-year UG degree into parts and provide different entry and exit options to students. UGC Chairman Prof. M Jagadesh Kumar said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recommends that the higher education system should enable student to study one or more specialised areas of interest at a deep level and also develop capabilities in disciplines including sciences, social sciences, humanities, languages and vocational subjects.
Accordingly, it suggests that the existing Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) to be revised to instil innovation and flexibility.
Prof. Kumar said that although the existing CBCS allows students to choose from various disciplines but it lacks a multi and interdisciplinary flavour. He added that students who are pursuing a three-year UG programme as per the existing CBCS are also eligible to pursue a four-year programme.
