Property of Rs.2.2 Cr lost in 44 fire incidents in Srinagar in last 19 days
Over the past few weeks, Srinagar has reported a sudden surge in fire incidents which has led to the loss of property Rs.2.22 crore and has damaged dozens of infrastructures.
On December 4, at least four residential houses were damaged in a fire incident in Chattabal. On December 9, a pharmaceutical godown was gutted while a residential house and hotel were partially damaged in a fire incident in Rajbagh. The fire incident also left two fire-fighters were also injured.
On December 11, two residential were gutted in a fire incident in Batamaloo. On December 13, a camp of the Central Reserve Police Force a tin shed was partially damaged in Indra Nagar.
A day later, five residential houses were damaged and a minor suffered injuries in a fire incident in Bemina. On December 16, at least seven residential houses were damaged in twin fire incidents in Bemina and Habba Kadal.
Division Forest Officer (DFO) Head Quarters Srinagar Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) Tasaduq Ahmad said, “From the beginning of this month to 19th December, Kashmir saw as many as 222 fire incidents. Out of which 44 took place in Srinagar along”.
Adding that he said that in those 44 fire incidents, the property had a value of Rs.16.25 cr. Out of those Rs.16.25 cr, property worth Rs 14.05 Cr was saved. However, there has been a loss of Rs.2.2 cr. Unfortunately, four firemen were injured during the incidents, too.
Tasaduq further said that people need to understand that our force is professional and should not intervene during our work. Adding that he said, “It is the intervention of people during fire incident that leads to losing at a time.”
Recently, there was a fire incident at a CRPF camp in Srinagar. I cannot thank enough how our team responded on time and reached the spot and taking control. Else, it would have been severe damage, Tasaduq said.
