Sensex, Nifty witness losses of around 1% in afternoon trade

The Sensex and the Nifty witnessed losses of around one percent in afternoon trade. Index of top 30 companies, Sensex, was at 61,100, plunging 602 points.

The Nifty, index of top 50 companies, also fell 176 points to trade at 18,210. Both indices declined amid mixed cues from global share markets.
