Two J&K eminent writers bag Sahitya Akademi Award 2022
The prestigious ‘Sahitya Akademi Award’ for 2022 will be conferred on eminent writers Veena Gupta & Farooq Fayaz for their literary creations in Dogri as well as Kashmiri languages.
Prof. Veena Gupta would be conferred the award for her book in Dogri Chhe Roopak (six radio features) in plays/darams category while Prof. Farooq Fayaz will conferred for his book Zael Dab in Literary Criticism category.
Prof Veena Gupta has been serving mother tongue Dogri for the last so many years. In addition to original works she has also contributed to Dogri literature with class translations. About 100 papers/ articles written by her have been published in reputed journals and magazines.
She has served as Head of the Department, PGD of Dogri , Convener Board of Studies in Dogri, Dean Faculty of Oriental Learning, Member, College Development Council University of Jammu, Expert in Subject Dogri in UGC and UPSC Convener Dogri Advisory Board.
Similarly, Prof. Farooq Fayaz’ book titled Zael Dab offers a penetrating insight into the processes and diverse trends which had a role in shaping the texture of Kashmiri contemporary analytical literature. The marked feature of the book rests on its thematic variety and diversity.
“Heartiest congratulations to eminent writers, Veena Gupta & Farooq Fayaz on winning Sahitya Akademi Award-2022 for their literary creations in Dogri & Kashmiri languages. I also congratulate Nirmal Vinod & Shabnam Tilgami for Sahitya Akademi Prize for Translation,” Manoj Sinha said in a tweet.
The awards announced for 23 languages include seven poetry collections, six novels, two story collections, two literary criticisms, three plays and one autobiography.
It also announced the ‘Sahitya Akademi Translation’ awards for 2022.
The awardees are given Rs.1 lakh in cash, a engraved copper plaque and a shawl.
